ELECTIVE COURSES
ADAPTIVE DANCE
Adaptive dance was one of the most cherished classes I have taken so far at this University. I had little to no prior knowledge on the topics we discussed throughout the course and I got to develop my understanding of all these different fields of dance such as adaptive dance, physically integrated dance and inclusive dance. The extremely special part about this class is the exposure we got by having many guest speakers throughout the semester. We got a little taste of everything and all these people out in the community of Chicago using dance in non-traditional ways and it was such a rewarding experience.
GLOBAL INFLUENCES ON DANCE
In this class I got the opportunity to work with a brand new faculty member, Vershawn Sanders-Ward. In this class we explored deeply Katherine Dunham's technique and also the importance she had on dance itself. We looked a lot into her activism and social justice and how she was a renowned scholar. We also got the opportunity to explore a non-western dance style of our choosing and explore the effects it has on the community it is in as well as how it contributes to social justice.
